Year 6 homework
We expect that year 6 will spend at least 20 mins a day accessing their online learning programmes at home .This is approximately 2 x 10 min slots on each platform per week. They should also be spending 10 minutes daily reading and completing reading rivers.
suggested homework timetable in year 6 might look like this, with 30 minutes spent on homework every day.
The children all have their logins and passwords.
Their usage of and progress on these sites is regularly monitored and targets set accordingly.
The best progress is made by children who access these for regular short sessions.

In addition to these weekly requirements children in year 6 will also receive a termly personal learning project.

Reading Rivers- Recording of children’s was simplified last year with children apbe to record just the amount they have read or to give a full ‘fruit’ response which enables them to respond to their reading in a creative way.

Spelling- While spelling remains an important focus within school, where weekly teaching of rules still takes place, we will no longer have a weekly spelling test. Spelling homework will now be individualised via the doodle spell programme.

Doodle (spell, maths and English)
https://www.doodlemaths.com/#
These digital learning platforms create individual work plans for children, intelligently tailored to their strengths and weaknesses. They are designed to reinforce existing knowledge while gradually introducing new concepts, and have curriculum-aligned questions which are delivered in short, fun and snappy exercises on computer, tablet or phone. Little and often works best.
