Transition Information
TRANSITION TO YEAR 3:
Most of our Year 3 children come to us from Ashley Infant School. Throughout Year 2 we work very closely with the infants school to ensure a smooth transition. This work includes:
- Our Year 3 teachers visit the infants school on numerous occasions to learn about the children.
- The Year 2 children visit us several times in the Summer Term; they come to see our Year 6 production and they come to experience PE and Music here.
- Our current Year 3 children write a ‘Welcome to Year 3’ booklet for the new children.
- We hold an information evening for Year 2 parents whose child will be joining us in Year 3. This meeting is held at the end of the Summer Term.
When children join us from other local infant schools we also liaise closely with that school to ensure the child can take part in all these transition activities.
IN-YEAR TRANSITION:
It is very important to us that children who join us mid-year from other schools feel welcome and are able to find their feet as quickly as possible.
Once a place has been offered and accepted we will arrange a transition meeting for you and your child. At this meeting you and your child will have a chance to meet the new teacher and to see the classroom. There will also be the chance to meet a member of the leadership team and ask any questions that you may have.
Whether you are joining us in the main admission round in Year 3, or during the year as an in-year admission, our SEN and Family Link staff will be available to answer your questions and support your child. If your child has special educational needs you can make an appointment with our SENDco Mrs Harling or Deputy Headteacher Mrs Pounds. If you would like to speak to our Family Link Worker, who can offer support with issues at home that might affect behaviour / attendance etc, then please ask to speak to Mrs Cheesman.
